Sister City Omitama
The Sister City delegation will be here July 27 to August 2, 2017. We will need host families for the time frames of July 27 to August 2 and August 2 to August 7. Families host two students. People interested in hosting must have children in the household and an extra room in which they can stay. Host family responsibilities include providing breakfast and dinner, transporting students to meeting points in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. There will be one weekend for each family to spend time with the students they are hosting.
The Welcome Dinner will be July 28, 2017. The main course is provided by the Sister City. The rest of the dinner is potluck with side dishes and desserts provided by the attendees. Every one in Abilene is welcome to attend. It might be best to start off with a public invitation to the welcome dinner.
Contact Claire Anderson for more information.
The Sister City relationship developed from Japanese interns coming to the Harold Scanlan dairy farm. In 1984 an agreement to form a Sister City relationship between Abilene and Minori, Japan was signed. Since that time adult and student delegations have made annual visits to the others towns.
The Sister City Committee identified student exchanges/youth friendships, daily life experience and cultural experience as the main emphasis of the program.
