Water Treatment Plant Responsibilities

The City of Abilene's reverse osmosis type plant, the first of it's kind in the state of Kansas, has been in operation since 1998. The plant is staffed by two operators and at maximum capacity, can treat and deliver three million gallons of water a day the distribution system.   

The plant operators also manage and maintain the 10 ground water wells, perform all routine testing procedures 365 days a year to assure a constant and safe water supply to the distribution system. The yearly daily average production is about 1.1 million gallons.
