Celebrate the 4th of July in Abilene!

Thank you to the Abilene Parks & Recreation staff for their continued dedication to hosting the annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration!


Important information from the City: 

For questions or accommodation requests, please contact the City of Abilene Parks and Recreation office at 785-263-7266.

  • Non-essential city offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025. 
  • Firework Sales are permitted:
    June 30-July 5, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Firework Discharge is permitted:
    July 1-2 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
    July 3-5 from 8:00 a.m. to midnight
  • Old Fashioned Fourth of July activities begin Friday, July 4 at 7:00 a.m. in Eisenhower Park. 
    • Registration occurs at the large Shelter house near the basketball courts.
    • Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes 15 minutes prior to event start.
    • Schedule of Events:
      • 7:00 a.m.                         Tournament Registrations Begin
      • 8:00 a.m.                         Start 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament -$20/per team
                                                      Start Mud Volleyball Tournament - $30.00/per team
                                                      Start Cornhole Tournament - $10/per team
                                                      Start Pickleball Tournament - $10/per team
      • 9:00 a.m.                         Register for Baby Beauty at the Bandshell - $5/child
                                                      Start Pedal Power Tractor Pull at the Show Barn
      • 10:00 a.m.                       Start Baby Beauty
      • 11:00 a.m.                       Frog & Turtle Races
      • 11:30 a.m.                       Hot Wheel Races
      • 12:00 p.m.                        Start Pool Activities - Pre-Registration not required

  • Kansas State Fire Marshall Firework Safety Reminders: 
    • Always read and follow label instructions.
    • Always purchase high quality fireworks from a reliable, legitimate source.
    • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a "designated shooter."
    • Never give fireworks to small children.
    • Adults should always supervise use of fireworks by older children.
    • Always wear eye protection when lighting fireworks.
    • Never ignite fireworks indoors. Make sure your outdoor area is safe for firework use.
    • Never point or throw fireworks at a person, building, or animal.
    • Have a source of water handy, in case of fire.
    • Always shoot fireworks from a level surface.
    • Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
    • Light only one firework at a time.
    • Never attempt to re-light malfunctioning fireworks.
    • When lighting fireworks, never position any part of your body over them.
    • Never carry fireworks in your pocket.
    • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.
    • Never experiment with homemade fireworks. They are dangerous and illegal.
    • Bottle rockets and other skyrockets that are mounted on a stick or wire are illegal.
    • It is illegal to shoot fireworks on or under a vehicle, on any public roadway, within 50 feet of a firework stand or where fireworks are stored, and gas stations or any place liquid gas- including propane - is stored.
