The City of Abilene has contracted T & M Concrete Construction of Junction City to complete major concrete street repairs to the 500 and 600 blocks (Mulberry to Elm) of West 1st Street. The project is scheduled to begin this Wednesday, August 16. In order to make the improvements it will be necessary to detour West 1st traffic. Therefore all trucks going to Flint Hills Grain as well as passenger vehicles will be routed south on Mulberry to SW 2nd and then west to Elm and the reverse of this for eastbound traffic. When construction nears the west end of the project, Elm Street and the UP railroad crossing at the corner of 1st and Elm will be closed to all through traffic. There will be some temporary parking restrictions in the 100 block of S. Mulberry and the 500 block of SW 2nd Street to help make the route safer for the extra traffic. It is estimated the project will take 30-45 days to complete. Questions can be directed to Public Works at 263-3510.
