This may not be a real accident, but our firefighters have real skill!
Every emergency begins with preparation!
- The department responds annually to over 100 motor vehicle accidents.
- Many of the accidents require utilizing specialized extrication equipment, i.e., cutters, spreaders and rams - commonly referred to as the “jaws of life” - to remove the people trapped in the vehicle.
- These responses require multiple personnel to complete.
- The department responds to accidents on I-70, K-15, K-18, county roads and city streets; each of these areas presents unique challenges in safely removing people from vehicles and getting them to safety.
