The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of central Kansas, including the Abilene area, effective Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Forecasted conditions include very low relative humidity (25–30%) combined with strong winds and gusts ranging from 55 to 65 mph, creating extreme fire danger across the region. Areas outside the warning area are still expected to experience very high fire danger.
Due to these hazardous conditions, all outdoor burning must be postponed on Thursday, December 18. Even small ignition sources could quickly spread and become difficult to control.
Residents are urged to use caution, avoid activities that could produce sparks or flames, and report any fires immediately.
