The City of Abilene is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Wilkins as Chief of Police, effective August 20, 2025. Chief Wilkins, who has served in an interim capacity, will officially assume the role following two decades of dedicated service to the Abilene community.

Chief Wilkins joined the Abilene Police Department in 2005 and has since held numerous leadership and operational roles, including patrol officer, field training officer, detective, lieutenant, and Assistant Chief. His 20 years of experience in both front-line and executive capacities uniquely position him to lead the department with a deep understanding of the community’s values, needs, and expectations.

In addition to his extensive law enforcement experience, Chief Wilkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, is a graduate of the 283rd Session of the FBI National Academy, and has completed multiple FBI supervisory and executive development programs. He is also a graduate of the Certified Public Manager program at the University of Kansas.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief Wilkins is a committed community leader. He serves as a Rotarian, a board member of the Cedar House Foundation, and actively participates in Dickinson County Crime Stoppers. His strong ties to Abilene reflect his belief in fostering partnerships between law enforcement and the community.

“Chief Wilkins’ record of service, leadership, and community engagement makes him the clear choice to lead our police department,” said Interim City Manager Jon Quinday. “We are confident that under his leadership, the Abilene Police Department will continue to deliver exceptional service while strengthening its partnership with our community.”

Chief Wilkins expressed his commitment to the role, noting, “It is an honor to serve the City of Abilene in this capacity. I look forward to continuing the work alongside our dedicated officers to ensure the safety, trust, and well-being of our community.”

The City of Abilene extends its congratulations to Chief Wilkins on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership.
