With a winter storm expected to begin today, January 23, 2026, please keep the following in mind:
Small steps go a long way in keeping everyone safe.
Snow Routes:
It is helpful if cars are not parked in the streets along designated snow routes during snowfall. This allows city crews to safely and effectively plow the entire roadway.

Forecast Updates and Road Conditions:
- National Weather Service - visit https://www.weather.gov/ to stay informed about forecasted conditions.
- Traveling? - Check www.KanDrive.org if you must travel and ensure your vehicle has an emergency kit, including blankets!
Be prepared:
- Monitor local weather and official City and County updates
- Prepare for cold temperatures and possible power outages
- Check on neighbors who may need assistance
- Avoid travel during severe weather when possible
Winter safety tips:
- Keep space heaters 3 feet from anything that can burn. Plug them directly into the wall. Turn them off when you leave the room or go to bed.
- Never use grills, propane heaters, or generators inside your home or garage.
- Use flashlights instead of candles.
- Let faucets drip and open sink cabinets to help protect pipes.
- Keep phones charged and know where your main breaker and water shutoff are.
- Bring pets inside if you can.
- Check on neighbors who may need help.
Stay safe and warm.
