The Community Development Department plays a pivotal role in shaping and regulating various aspects of the city's growth and community well-being. 

Responsibilities

The Community Development Department oversees a range of development functions including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Planning: Developing and updating comprehensive plans for the city's growth, land use, and infrastructure.
  • Zoning: Regulations to ensure that land use is in compliance with the city's zoning codes.
  • Building Codes: Regulations ensuring buildings are designed, constructed, and maintained safely and in compliance with standards.
  • Permitting and Inspections: Processing and issuing permits for construction and development projects, as well as conducting inspections to ensure compliance with building codes.
  • Code Enforcement: Enforcing local codes and regulations related to property maintenance, aesthetics, and quality of life.
  • Development Review: Evaluation process for proposed projects to ensure compliance with zoning regulations, land use plans, and community impact. 
  • Historic preservation: Safeguarding and promoting the cultural and architectural heritage of the community by preserving historically significant structures and areas.
  • Neighborhood Revitalization: Initiatives aimed at improving and rejuvenating specific community areas, often involving economic development and infrastructure improvements.
